Can I push the button?

Merry Christmas, and here is an excellent big red button for you to push and i'm not being punny. I mean a digital not metaphorical button.

Even as a 5-year-old i used to love pushing buttons. Elevator buttons especially, but any big red button would do. And I was not the only one. I have, for example, had occasion to ride in elevators with young children -- in the department store, at the airport, in the hotel -- and i have observed that without fail it is the youngest toddlers amongst these creatures who want to be the one who pushes the button, and they want this so badly they can't STAND it. What is the evolutionary advantage to the untaught human instinct to want to be the one who gets to push the button, not just once, but two or three times?

Most kids outgrow this phase. On the other hand, it's a good thing I'm not president as i don't suppose "oops" would be a good explanation for pressing the big red button that starts World War III. "Sor-ree-ee."

But don't worry, I couldn't be elected dog catcher and I love dogs.

So Merry Christmas & happy New Year. I hope it's a good one with without any fear. Ms. Who and I just drove 500 miles and I'm glad we did. Tomorrow we get to see all our kids and I wouldn't ask for more than that.

This reminds me of the time when my little brother and I were in Harvey's, which in the early 1960s was Nashville's biggest department store. We were maybe three and four years old, respectively. And I wanted to know what would happen if you pushed the big red button on the escalators. So I convinced my brother to push it.

Which was fairly typical -- I was the instigator and he was the kid just dumb enough to fall for it.

I hope the deluxe version of The Who Sell Out and the Blu-Ray of Buster Keaton's The General this Christmas made up for it ...

Charlie was a great meet-up with you & Ann. Thanks for the great The Who issue of Mojo -- read it cover to cover. Hey: so is their Mojo Filter dept. a nod to Come Together ... or vice versa?

Myth: I wish you were MY brother & I aint lying. You gave him the deluxe version of (speaking of synchronicity) The Who Sell Out and the Blu-Ray of Buster Keaton's The General? Good God; that's seriously incredibly cool.
